Donor relations includes stewarding donor gifts to ensure they are used according to donor intent, coordinating regular gift reporting with departments, and providing guidance and support for donor acknowledgments and impact reporting. It also involves facilitating engagement through advisory boards and leadership councils, and supporting events that connect donors, alumni and external partners to Student Life.
Stewardship
Student Life External Engagement helps ensure donor gifts are stewarded well, notifying departments of gifts received and working with Student Life Business Services to ensure that donor funds are spent according to the donor’s intent.
Every month, we review divisional gifts and share updates with departments so they can follow up promptly and appropriately. We offer guidance on donor acknowledgment, provide templates and messaging support, and prepare annual impact reports for select divisional funds.
Advisory Board Support
Student Life External Engagement provides guidance for divisional and departmental advisory boards and serves as the primary liaison for the Student Life Leadership Council (SLLC), which is the vice president’s external advisory board.
SLLC is composed of alumni and friends of the University who offer insight, expertise and connections to support Student Life’s mission. Members engage with staff, support student development and meet twice annually with divisional leadership.
Event Support
Student Life External Engagement provides direct support for VPSL events and divisional VIP events identified by the VPSL. We also consult with departments hosting events involving donors, alumni or external partners. We are also happy to work with departments, as capacity allows, to provide guidance on hosting a University-funded event.
